ARMAF SOCIAL CLUB PRESENTS: IN THE CLUB
EPISODE 1: BRIAN BLAKELY
We are committed to the idea that a club is only as good as the crowd that fills it
With that ethos in mind we are delighted to launch our new community driven initiative, ARMAF Social Club; a digital and physical community hub for all things ARMAF. Bringing together artists and tastemakers
whose work pushes the culture forward across fashion, music, dance, art, nightlife and more.
To mark this initiative we have created our latest campaign, IN THE CLUB, spotlighting the first of many artists that embody the ethos of ARMAF - pushing the boundaries, doing the work, and enjoying the
rewards. We begin in New York City, with four artists from many disciplines. First up
Brian Blakely, a chain stitch embroidery artist and garment manufacturer.
On a cold New York morning, inside his Brooklyn studio, he is making a jacket for us.
Brian's work is deeply physical, using a machine from decades ago with no digital interface. Each stitch driven through the fabric, the sewing machine's foot stepping rhythmically over the custom garment as the
design develops. While at the machine, Brian is in a deep flow state- nothing else is there, just him, his machine, and the picture he paints in thread. He is in sync with the process, he is living fully in the moment
Armaf Social Club varsity jacket will travel through the hands and lives of other members, to be imbued with a life all it's own. Before delivery to KAZI, a friend and fellow IN THE CLUB featured artist, Brian gives the
jacket a last touch - the timeless scent of Club de Nuit Intense Man. We hope you will enjoy the film on Brian's process, and check back soon to see our other NYC artist features. Until then, friends.
